1983 Submariner ‘Matte dial’ 16800 : 16800
A super original Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner-Date, model reference 16800.
This is an early example of the ‘transitional’ Submariner. This generation of Submariner was the first to be waterproof to 1000ft and the first to be fitted with a sapphire crystal. The earliest 16800 Submariners were delivered with matte black dials, the later had the gloss dials with white gold hour markers. The dial markers and hands have aged to a rich, even cream tone.
The 7.4m serial number suggests a delivery new in 1983, the H bracelet code confirms this.
